On Location: GrooZ, Shibuya

Some shoots happen in factories. Some happen on the streets of Shibuya at midnight, surrounded by a few hundred people from every corner of the world.

This weekend, TPS photographer Anne was on location with GrooZ, Tokyo's biggest international party community. If you have seen a crowd of international students and travelers taking over a Shibuya night, there is a good chance GrooZ was behind it.

Photographing energy

Event photography is a different discipline from a studio session. The light is whatever the city gives you, nobody holds a pose, and the moment you want lasts about half a second. The job is to be exactly where the energy peaks — the group shot that turns into a cheer, the DJ drop, the friends who met an hour ago acting like they grew up together.

That is Anne's home ground. She moves with the crowd instead of directing it, and the photos come back looking the way the night actually felt: loud, warm, and a little chaotic in the best way.

The TPS pop-up sold out

We did not only bring cameras. TPS ran an apparel pop-up at the event — and everything sold out before the night was over.

Thank you to everyone who grabbed a piece. Seeing our brand on people who came to Tokyo from all over the world is exactly why we make things. More drops are coming; follow Tetty's Photo Studio on Instagram so you do not miss the next one.

Shooting your event

Concerts, community nights, brand launches, parties — if there is energy in the room, we can put it on camera. Talk to us about covering your next event.
